Plans still on track - salvors

8:11 pm on 15 December 2011

A spokesperson for the company in charge of salvaging the stranded container ship Rena says the state of the wreck hasn't altered to the point that current plans need to change.

Poor weather in the Bay of Plenty has stalled the recovery of containers from the grounded vessel, with only 206 removed to date.

Drew Shannon from Svitzer salvage says the crane barge Smit Borneo, that's being used to lift containers from the Rena, will stay out of action until it's safe to resume the operation.

Meanwhile, a further 46 little blue penguins that have been looked after at the oiled wildlife response centre near Mount Maunganui, were released back into the wild on Thursday.

There are still 61 little blue penguins in care at the facility, as well as two dotterels.
