Salvors working on the Rena have brought the Smit Borneo barge, and other support vessels into the port of Tauranga ahead of the storm this weekend, which is expected to cause sea swells of more than five meters.
Maritime New Zealand says some equipment and scaffolding from the bow section of the Rena has also been removed, to ensure it is not damaged or washed overboard in the heavy seas.
