Veteran New Zealand rower Nathan Twaddle admits it hasn't been all plain sailing for his quadruple sculls crew as they prepare for the championships.
Twaddle spent six years rowing with George Bridgewater in the pair, winning a world championship title and an Olympic bronze medal.
Since then he's switched to sculling in a crew that includes Matthew Trott, John Storey and Rob Manson and this year they've improved enough to become title contenders.
While he's the most senior member of the crew, Twaddle says there's mostly been a collaborative approach, apart from moments of testiness on the water, which he says is about getting the best out of the boat.
The sculling heats start on Monday.
