Cup accommodation offers for Canterbury fans

7:06 am on 9 September 2011

An Auckland man has organised free accommodation for up to 900 Canterbury rugby fans wanting to travel to Auckland for World Cup games.

Christchurch was originally due to host seven games, but earthquake damage to AMI Stadium made that impossible.

'Smudge' McNeilage says offers have been pouring in from Auckland people wanting to help and 700 beds are still available.

As well as accommodation, he says Aucklanders are also offering to pick up Canterbury fans from the airport, take them to the matches and even let them stay at their holiday homes when the tournament is over.
