Pool game numbers boosted by opening ceremony

A stadium official in Rotorua says the size of the crowd for Saturday night's game was because the hype of the tournament is starting to build.

Some 10,100 people attended the match between Fiji and Namibia, with supporters turning out for both sides.

Rotorua International Stadium operations manager Neil Alton says the size of the crowd would have been partly boosted by the World Cup's opening ceremony the night before.

He says ticket sales might have reached 15,000 if it had not been such an early match.

Mr Alton says the final match to be played in Rotorua, between Ireland and Russia on 25 September, could be a sell out.
