Electronic card spending jumped by 10% in the first ten days of the Rugby World Cup led by purchases of food and drink, car rentals and accommodation.

The electronic card payment system provider, Paymark, says

says the value of transactions rose to $130 million dollars in the ten days to 18 September compared with the same period a year ago.

The volume of transactions rose 8%.

Paymark says spending growth outside the hospitality and car rentals sectors, and the main rugby centres, is more modest.
