Rugby World Cup organisers say they are $6.5 million short of the tournament's revenue target.

Some 1.34 million tickets have been sold so far, bringing in

$262 million.

Rugby New Zealand 2011 chief executive Martin Snedden says that this is an excellent place to be with eight major matches still to go and he has no doubt the target will be met.

Rugby New Zealand 2011 says 1.07 million people have attended matches so far.

It says nearly 250,000 fans attended last weekend's matches alone, which included four sellouts.
