Trouble free night for fan zones, transport

Tens of thousands of people flocked to Eden Park and fan zones in Auckland to watch the first Rugby World Cup semi-final, without any of the logistical problems that plagued the tournament's opening night.

Auckland Council says about 8000 people were at the Queen's Wharf fan zone on Saturday night, well short of the 12,000 it can accommodate.

The council says public transport to Eden Park ran smoothly with about 45% of the crowd using buses, trains and taxis.

Eleven people were evicted from the stadium but only one was arrested, and 24 were evicted from Queens Wharf, where nine arrests were made.
