No power for another week for some in Taranaki

2:50 pm on 9 March 2012

The huge level of damage to the power network in South Taranaki and Whanganui districts from last weekend's storm means it will be a week or more before some farms have their electricity restored.

Some farmers have also reported losing power again after getting it back.

But the Fonterra dairy co-operative says conditions for its suppliers are improving all the time,

Fonterra's regional operations manager for the lower North island, Scott Walls, says it has been able to steadily reduce the number of farms needing special milk collection arrangements.

Mr Walls says emergency water deliveries to farms have also fallen from more than 30 earlier in the week to just two on Thursday.

But he says a handful of farmers still have no power or water and cannot milk at all, with a couple electing to dry off their cows.
