A former student and current business manager for the Taratahi Agricultural Training Centre will be heading to the national finals of the Young Farmer Competition.
Tony Dowman won the East Coast regional final at the weekend.
In a Young Farmers-first, a newly married couple, Duncan and Michelle Brown, went head-to-head in that regional final. Michelle took the title, with Duncan runner-up.
Also heading to the national finals in Dunedin in May is Brad Lewis, who won the Taranaki-Manawatu regional final. He manages a dairy farm in Levin.
In another competition, Otorohanga couple Barry and Nicky McTamney have won the Waikato Sharemilker/Equity Farmer of the Year contest.
Regional Farm Manager of the Year title went to Thomas White and the Dairy Trainee of the Year is Mark Jacobs.
They will go through to the National Dairy Awards final in Auckland in May.
