Hundreds of exhibitors at Central Districts Field Days

The last of the year's regional agricultural field days opens at Feilding in Manawatu on Thursday.

The Central Districts Field Days is held each year at Manfeild Park, and follows the Southland and Northland events.

Organiser Cheryl Riddell says this year's event is bigger, with 540 exhibitors, several from as far afield as Australia.

She says she expects sales to be up, because of the larger turn-outs at earlier field day events.

Ms Riddell says she's been getting some calls from South Island farmers who intend to come to the Feilding event for the first time.

She says several new competitions will be a feature of the Central Districts Field Days this year, such as a food tasting marquee and chainsaw carving.

The big event, the national agricultural field days, will be held at Mystery Creek near Hamilton in June. Nearly all the exhibition sites there have already been scooped up.
