Milk in school programme begins in Northland

7:57 am on 19 March 2012

Northland primary school children are taking their first sips of milk supplied direct to their classrooms on Monday as part of Fonterra's milk for schools programme.

The dairy co-operative launched the pilot programme in December as part of its aim to make milk more affordable and accessible.

About 110 schools have signed up to take part in the programme.

From Monday, about 10,500 school children will receive 250ml of low fat milk, every day of the school week.

Fonterra says it plans to take the milk in schools programme nationwide in 2013.
