Regional rural winners decided

Katherine Tucker has won the Northern Young Farmer Competition, the first woman to win a regional final in eight years.

The 26-year-old dairy farmer is in an equity partnership with her parents on a Wellsford farm.

Seven contestants will now compete for the grand title in Dunedin in May.

In the dairy awards, Enda and Sarah Hawe have won the Canterbury-North Otago Sharemilker-Equity Farmer of the Year title.

They are lower order sharemilkers on a 370 hectare property near Ashburton.

The Canterbury-North Otago Farm Manager of the Year is Mick O'Connor, and the Dairy Trainee of the Year is Nathan Christian.

Further south, James and Helen Hartshorne have won the Otago Sharemilker/Equity Farmer of the Year title.

The Otago Farm Manager of the Year title went to Gareth and Angela Dawson, and the Dairy Trainee of the Year is Richard Lang.

And a Winton couple, Billy and Sharn Roskam, have won the Southland Sharemilker/Equity Farmer of the Year title.

The Southland Farm Manager of the Year title went to Hannes and Lyzanne du Plessis, and the Dairy Trainee of the Year is Robert Ankerson.

They will all compete for the national titles in Auckland in May.
