Extra milking in South Canterbury

8:00 am on 5 May 2012

Due to unprecedented grass growth, many dairy farmers in South Canterbury will be milking well beyond the normal drying-off date.

Country Life reports that The Clandeboyd factory announced a couple of weeks ago that it is remaining open longer to manage the extra milk.

Most dairy farmers along the Otago coast are still on twice a day milking and most cows will be dried off by the end of May, when the processing factories close for winter. So far milk production there is up on last year in the region.
