The Ministry for Primary Industries expects to know whether the Queensland fruit fly pest is established in New Zealand by the end of the week.
A single male of the species was found in the Avondale, Auckland, nearly two weeks ago, sparking a major biosecurity operation.
Forty-eight personnel are still monitoring traps and analyzing samples from the area, but no more fruit flies have been found.
The ministry says results from all the traps are expected by Friday afternoon.
If no further fruit flies are found, the restrictions will be lifted, by Saturday at the earliest.
