HortNZ still wants to know how fruit fly got here

Horticulture New Zealand but will be seeking answers from the Ministry for Primary Industries about how a Queensland fruit fly into New Zealand, sparking a biosecurity alert.

Movement restrictions around Auckland's Avondale area were lifted at the weekend after a surveillance operation failed to find any more fruit fly following the discovery of the solitary male insect that triggered the alert.

Horticulture New Zealand president Andrew Fenton has praised the response but says the question of how the fruit fly got there still needs to be addressed.

He says the ministry has ensured Horticulture New Zealand there will be a full debrief and all the issues will be discussed at that time.
