Hundreds of competitors have entered the South Island and national sheep dog trial championships that opened at Alpha Burn Station near Wanaka on Monday.
More than half of the 300 competitors have travelled from the North Island for the trials, which opened in sunny conditions.
Organisers say the huntaway events have attracted 287 entries and 250 are competing in the heading events, with the national titles to be decided on Friday and Saturday.
