Farmers 'well prepared' for bitterly cold weather

Federated Farmers say farmers will be well prepared for a cold snap expected to hit the country from Tuesday afternoon.

Bitter southerlies are expected to bring snow to much of the South Island and heavy rain to parts of the North Island.

Federated Farmers' adverse events spokesperson David Rose says farmers have had a good year so far and are not too many problems from the weather.

He says ground conditions are good, while the adverse weather may be a little early this year, lambing and calving is not yet under way.
