Hawke's Bay horticulture field day set to take off

A new horticulture field day is set to become an annual feature in the sector's calendar.

The Eastern Horticultural Field Days was held for the first time in Hawke's Bay last week, attracting 2,500 visitors and 50 exhibitors.

Hawke's Bay A&P Society general manager Brent Linn says the response from the industry has been positive.

But he says a number of improvements are planned for next year with the aim of growing the event within five years to be the horticultural equivalent of Mystery Creek's National Agricultural Field Days, which opens on Wednesday.

Brent Linn says it is too soon to say how sales went overall, but says one trader made $350,000 on the day.
