A milk protein ingredient, developed by a company in Hamilton will be sent to China in an attempt to boost the oral health of Chinese children.

Quantec Ltd specialises in the commercialisation of bioactives from natural products and has sold its ingredient, comprised of immune defense proteins to NZ New Paradise in Auckland.

The ingredient will be used in oral and throat care confectionery products, which NZ New Paradise says will be manufactured in New Zealand and exported to China.

Quantec managing director Rod Claycomb says the company has been looking to export to China, as well as the United States, because of market size.

Mr Claycomb says there's potential for two tonnes of the ingredient, sourced mainly from Waikato, to be exported to China.
