Crown Research Institute organisation Scion, which specialises in forestry and wool product technology development, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Waikato University.
The agreement will result in collaborative research programmes that will be commercialised where possible, along with student projects and internships, and the creation of courses.
Waikato Vice Chancellor Roy Crawford says both organisations have already identified areas of mutual interest, including building the Maori economy.
He says the partnership is an example to the rest of New Zealand of how CRIs and universities can work together to improve social, economic and environmental outcomes for their regions.
