The Primary Industries Ministry has given science a lift in its decision-making by appointing a science adviser.
Ian Ferguson, chief scientist at Plant & Food, will take up the role from next month on a part-time basis while maintaining a science role with Plant & Food.
Dr Ferguson has a background in plant and fruit physiology, post-harvest and horticultural science, biochemistry and biotechnology.
He has also been a member of government funding and review panels and bodies.
