Zespri - Turners deal going smoothly

Zespri says an agreement with the Turners & Growers - which Kiwfruit New Zealand approved in late April - is going smoothly.

In early April the German company which controls the fresh produce company signalled a change of strategy from when the former owner, Guinness Peat Group, repeatedly pursued Zespri through the courts.

Zespri chief executive Lain Jager says the agreement allows Turners to market its Enza Gold kiwifruit in China, Hongkong and South Korea.

Mr Jager says he's looking forward to the constructive relationship with Turners & Growers continuing.

T&G chief executive Geoff Hipkins says the co-operation from Zespri has been fantastic.

He says the company was even allowed to sell some ENZA Gold not only in designated markets, but in the United Sates and parts of Europe, as well.

"We can work together," Mr Hipkins said.

There has been encouraging feedback from customers about the taste of Enza Gold but Turners & Growers is still learning about the shelf life of the kiwifruit variety.
