Elders Rural Holdings says there's been a significant breakthrough in efforts to boost the sale of New Zealand-made wool carpets in the United States.

CCA Global Partners which is the world's largest carpet retailer with more than 2000 stores, is to stock the company's Just Shorn range of carpets and rugs, in all its retail flooring businesses.

Early last year it agreed to sell the carpets in more than 80 luxury stores.

Chief executive Rick Bennet says that's been so successful the company plans to roll out New Zealand carpets across all its four major divisions in the United States and Canada next year.

He says it will be a real game changer for the way consumers think about wool carpet, which commands only 2% of the flooring market in the United States.

Elders chief executive Stuart Chapman says it's a great achievement for Elders Primary Wool, which is a joint venture between the company and the Primary Wool Co-operative.
