New meat company now has hundreds of customers

Bycroft Rural, a North Canterbury company launched two years ago, selling 100% drug-free merino meat online direct to the public and restaurants, now has hundreds of customers.

It farms about 3500 sheep on 7000 hectares and aims to nearly double the flock in five years.

Chief executive Chris Carthy works with fourth generation Merino farmer, Duncan Calder.

He says the Bycroft Rural website is simply the modern version of the old fashioned butcher shop and more and more people want to know where their food comes from.

Mr Carthy has no export ambitions, but says plans are already in place to expand the property and flock to meet growing demand.
