Beef and Lamb New Zealand's Farmer Council has a new chairman.

Martin Coup, a sheep and beef farmer from King Country, takes over from Malcolm McConochie, of Marlborough.

Mike Williams from Banks Peninsula is the new deputy chairman.

The council acts as a bridge between farmers and the organisation, and advises the board on research priorities and how the organisation can be more effective.

Its mission is to improve the profitability and sustainability of sheep and beef farming.
