The Forest Industry Contractors Association says it supports a crackdown on synthetic cannabis and other "legal high" products.
The Government will introduce legislation this year requiring manufacturers to pay up to $2 million to get products tested by a regulator, and putting restrictions on who can buy and sell the products.
Country Life reports the forestry sector has the highest number of workplace accidents and fatalities and the contractors association says the proposed changes are welcome.
Chief executive John Stulen says although the industry has made huge strides in reducing drugs in the workplace, through random alcohol and drug tests, it's a continuing battle.
