High Country farmers weather the blast

High Country farmers in the South Island have weathered the second icy blast to hit them in a week.

A south-westerly front dumped snow on the mountain ranges and brought heavy rain to the West Coast and hill country areas as well.

Chas Todhunter of Glenfalloch Station at the headwaters of the Rakaia River, is one of many High Country farmers who are lambing.

While there will be some losses, he said stock have coped very well with the stormy conditions.

Further south, Jonathan Wallis of Minaret Station at Lake Wanaka, said that despite the recent storms, it's shaping up to be a very good lambing season.
