A beef expo in its fifth and final day at Feilding, has failed to reach expectations. Prices were much lower than hoped.
Auctioneer Bruce Orr says prices are well down although numbers of sales are going relatively well.
The average price this year for a male Angus is just over $6500 - down from last year's average of almost $10,000.
However, with a lower New Zealand dollar, Mr Orr says markets for commercial beef for the next three to four months are promising.
"Steak of Origin" awards were made on Monday night. The supreme winner was a Pied Montese fresian from a dairy farm in Ngakuru near Rotorua.
