Prime Minister John Key has been told that Rural Women New Zealand will continue to push to have a Rural Affairs Minister reinstated.
The Government scrapped the post last year and made Agriculture Minister David Carter responsible for rural affairs as well.
Mr Key told the Rural Women New Zealand conference on Friday that it does not mean the Government is giving less attention to rural issues.
He says he wants the whole cabinet to engage with these issues, but if it doesn't work the Government will reassess the situation.
Rural Women New Zealand president Margaret Chapman said the organisation will not be letting the issue drop.
