Foundation moves to increase farm recycling

One of the key organisations responsible for recycling farm materials has announced a new business partner as it tries to increase recycling levels particularly in the pastoral sector.

The Agrecovery Foundation has appointed Federated Farmers as its new business manager, replacing Horticulture New Zealand.

Foundation chair Graeme Peters says the 60 companies which fund the recycling initiative have asked for more recycling, more recovery and more transparency at the foundation.

As well as collecting chemicals and chemical containers the foundation recycled 150 tonnes of plastic from farms across the country in the last financial year - around 30% of the total.

Over the next two years it is aiming to get that recoiling rate up to 50%.

Mr Peters says the organisation will also be targeting the agricultural manufactures currently sitting outside of the voluntary initiative to sign up too.
