With fine weather forecast, the Foundation for Arable Research (FAR) is expecting another big turnout for its biggest field event of the year on Wednesday, the annual Crops Expo near Ashburton.

Foundation s chief executive Nick Pyke says the expo at its Chertsey trial site has attracted 400-500 people for the past two years.

He says growers will be able to catch up on some of the latest crop management techniques and treatments on display. As well as a range of research trials, there are also several demonstration plots and sponsors' trials.

"The plots have more interesting features to them than we've seen in many plots in the past, so the differences between some of the treatments are very, very marked. I think farmers will find that incredibly interesting - particularly looking at some of the nutrient and disease management work."

Mr Pyke says issues relating to control of grass grub are also interesting.
