Kiwifruit profits up

Zespri has seen its profits rise by a fifth due to stronger sales.

The kiwifruit marketer made $23.9 million in the year to the end of March - an increase of 21% on the previous year.

Sales rose 25% to $1.5 billion, as more green and gold kiwifruit were sold in Europe, Asia and North America, at better prices.

But chief financial officer Merv Dallas says the global downturn means demand is down so far this year and it's forecasting slightly lower prices.
