Avocados are being picked for export in the Bay of Plenty, but the crop is way down on estimates.
Country Life reports that two million trays were expected but the harvest will be about half of that.
Some growers are choosing to leave fruit on trees for a bit longer this season - so they can ''size up'' and also so they can be sent to the domestic market because returns there are expected to be quite good.
