Sheep and beef farmers are being encouraged to use an updated environmental management guide.
Beef + Lamb New Zealand has issued an updated version of its Land and Environment Planning Toolkit.
It includes modules on topics such as keeping stock out of water, erosion and sediment management, and nutrient balances.
The toolkit has three levels, from basic risk assessment plans to advanced farm mapping tools.
Beef + Lamb market access general manager Ben O'Brien said farmers who have used the tool kit, report it has also helped their businesses.
"It allowed them to identify probably the three most important components on their farm in terms of making use of the resources they have, what opportunities there are for them and what risks they have."
He said the toolkit helps clarify farmers' thinking about how to best utilise the resource available.
Federated Farmers meat and fibre chair Jeanette Maxwell said the toolkit helped her to improve the management of her hill country farm in the Rakaia area of Canterbury.
She said their suggestion was "right on the money".
