Federated Farmers has welcomed the appointment of another farmer to take over the primary industries portfolio in the Cabinet reshuffle announced on Tuesday.
The Government has nominated Minister for Primary Industries David Carter to replace Lockwood Smith as Speaker of the House.
It's named the associate minister in the agriculture sector, Otaki MP Nathan Guy, to succeed Mr Carter.
Federated Farmers' National President Bruce Wills says David Carter has built up a great working relationship with the federation and the rest of the sector and he expects Nathan Guy to continue that.
The Cabinet reshuffle will push primary industries from 10th to 16th place in the ministerial rankings.
But Mr Wills doesn't see that as a big issue for farmers.
