Blueberry exports

6:51 am on 17 February 2013

Blueberry growers in Waikato are having a strong export season. Most of the fruit is going to Australia, but there are opportunities in Asia.

Country Life reports that usually there is strong competition from Chilean fruit, but Chile's had adverse growing conditions and that's left the door open for New Zealand blue berries.

The fine weather's been both good and bad for the berries: they're not splitting in the rain, but blueberries need rain to size up - so the season will end with small fruit.
