Unity found in goat sector

The New Zealand goat farming sector has agreed to unite under one industry banner as it looks for a stronger voice and funding.

The Dairy Goat Co-Operative, Mohair New Zealand and Meat Goat NZ have two people each in the Federated Farmers goat industry group.

Mohair New Zealand chairman John Woodward said the industry has decided to put an at-times acrimonious, past behind it.

He said members will be canvassed about reintroducing an industry levy because currently the industry is not paying its way.

Mr Woodward said the first stage of that will be ensuring that everyone in the sectors of dairy, meat and mohair is contacted about having the levy reintroduced.
