There is optimism from major agricultural exporting countries that world trade talks could be revived.
Trade ministers came close in 2008 to a deal on the so-called Doha round but it collapsed over proposals to help farmers in poor nations.
The Cairns Group of 19 major farm exporters, including New Zealand, wrapped up talks in Indonesia on Tuesday with a communique saying United States, European and Indian officials are newly resolved to try again.
But Trade Minister Tim Groser, who is now in South Korea, says New Zealand will press ahead with one-on-one bilateral trade negotiations.
He says a free trade agreement with South Korea is the sort of plan B that must be pursued.
