Fonterra is rolling out the next stage of its milk for schools programme.

The dairy co-operative is taking the free delivery of milk to primary schools nationwide after a successful pilot scheme in Northland last year.

On Tuesday the company invited more than 150 Southland and Otago primary schools, which have already indicated their interest, to sign up.

Canterbury schools will be next on on the list.

Fonterra expects it will take a year to extend the milk for schools programme to all regions.
