Rural developments not meeting consents, study shows

2:44 pm on 22 April 2013

A study has found that 35% of agricultural property developments are not meeting environmental consent requirements.

The study by Marie Brown from Waikato University found dairy conversions are the biggest problem, with developers not meeting requirements including protecting existing habitat, stream planting and wetland conversion.

Ms Brown said councils were monitoring some of the consent process but once consent had been granted the work was not monitored.
