Drought declaration likely until September

The Primary Industries Minister has confirmed that the North Island and West Coast of the South Island are likely to remain officially in a state of drought until September.

While recent rainfall has been a real boost for farmers, Nathan Gury said they would continue to feel the impacts of the drought for some time.

Mr Guy said it is important that Rural Support Trusts around the country, which were mobilised following the drought declaration, continue providing farmers with support and advice on planning for what is ahead.
