No logjam for NZ timber in China

8:06 am on 23 May 2013

The forest industry has been enjoying an exceptionally strong demand for logs in China.

NZX Agri-Fax primary industry analyst Ivan Luketina says in domestic markets there has still been high demand for pruned logs and structural and framing grades.

China is now heading into the hot season where building productivity wanes, so prices for logs may come off slightly, he says, but it's not expected to be a significant drop.

Mr Luketina says China's economic data has shown an unexpected slightly slowing economy for the first quarter.
