Protecting and growing farmers' capital are the key themes running through the Deer Industry New Zealand conference taking place this week in Wellington.
"Your capital your future", is the slogan for the three day conference which kicked off on Thursday morning.
The industry's chief executive, Mark O'Connor, told the farmers and industry people there it's all about farmers maximising their returns - be it profit or other factors important to individuals in the industry.
He says while the deer industry has many great things going for it there's no denying it also faces challenges.
