Kiwifruit harvest

6:40 am on 9 June 2013

The kiwifruit harvest is finished in the Motueka/Nelson region and volume was good.

But Country Life reports the export percentage, which is normally 85% - 90%, was down to 60% - 70% this season due to wind damage.

Fruit growers in Motueka/Nelson are now moving into apple pruning, removing kiwifruit canopies and tying up boysenberries.

The kiwifruit harvest in Bay of Plenty is drawing to a close. It's been a tricky season: at first the fruit was not ready and then when it was, the rain started.

However, Country Life says a lot of fruit has been picked in the past week.
