Westland Dairy Company staying open this winter

7:16 am on 9 June 2013

Most of the dairy farms on West Coast have dried off, but a few farmers are milking on as the Westland Co-operative Dairy Company in Hokitika is keeping its doors open this winter.

The co-operative has announced a pay-out prediction for the 2013-14 season of $6.60 - $7 per kg of milk solids, an increase of 60 - 70 cents on the current season.

Country Life reports this increase will allow some farmers to recoup extra costs incurred during last summer's drought.
