Turners and Growers appoints chief executive

3:06 pm on 14 June 2013

Turners & Growers has appointed one of the men who has been overseeing the company as its new chief executive.

Alastair Hulbert has taken up the role with immediate effect.

He was the company's general manager of international markets and had been acting as chief executive after Geoff Hipkins left suddenly in March.

The fruit and vegetable producer and exporter, which is 73% owned by Germany's BayWa, reported another annual loss due to further writedowns of its apple and kiwifruit orchards.

Turners & Growers depury chairman Sir John Anderson says the appointment gives the company certainty.

He says Mr Hulbert grew up on an asparagus farm and has worked in the growing, packing and marketing of fresh produce both in New Zealand and overseas.
