Rise in wool prices

5:58 am on 24 July 2009

Wool prices rose for most types at the South Island sale on Thursday, reflecting a recent increase in demand for all textile fibres.

New Zealand Wool Services International says almost 80% of the 16,800 bales on offer sold.

Prices for finer mid micron fleece wools rose between 6% - 9%.

Demand for coarse fleece and shears was strong, pushing prices for these types up by between 2% - 5%.
