Plan to establish trans-Tasman Sheep Dairying Assn

5:58 am on 3 August 2009

Delegates from New Zealand and overseas will meet in Tokaanu near Turangi on Monday, with the aim of establishing a trans-Tasman Sheep Dairying Association.

The meeting is being hosted by the Waituhi Kuratau Trust, a Maori incorporation that milks 2500 sheep in what it describes as a "very small industry" in this country.

Although sheep milk is currently mainly used only for making into cheese, trustee Graeme Everton says the potential to grow the industry both here and in Australia is the motivation for establishing the association.
