The Hawke's Bay Meat Company is planning changes to the way it operates.

The company owns plants in Gisborne, Hastings, Waipukurau and Feilding.

In early 2007, it bought all the shares in the lamb processing operations of Bernard Mathews New Zealand, which was set up in the 1980's to produce lamb roasts from a plant in Waipukurau.

The focus since 2007 has been on branded added value chilled and frozen lamb cuts.

Director Craig Hickson says possible alterations to the plants in Feilding and Waipukurau, will change the emphasis to increasing the sales of chilled product.
